September 2026
The lions went to Australia.
Our Under-12 boys flew to Queensland for Australia’s national school futsal championships. They came home with four wins, thirty-nine goals and an All Star.

Before they left
An invitation, and a fundraising drive.
The invitation came from the Australian Futsal Association. The opportunity reached Chung Wah School through Brisolona Futsal Club in Honiara, an AFA-affiliated futsal club in Solomon Islands, and Brisolona’s head coach Victor Waiia prepared the players and worked with the team throughout.
Getting there was the harder part. In August the school launched a fundraising drive, and the money came from parents, from the school board, from businesses and ministries and members of parliament — the same way this school has done things since 1949.

Families met the team at the airport with a banner they had made themselves. The lion on our crest went to Queensland and came back.

The boys flew because this community sent them.
In 1949 the Chinese community of Honiara paid for a school. In 2019 it paid for the classrooms in use today. In 2026 it sent its Under-12 boys to Australia. The team thanked:
